When the Automatic Cable Routing routine prioritizes finding the shortest path it may not choose the preferred cable routes to make installation easier. Some examples might include:
Laying cables in a cable ladder is easier to install than to feed them through conduits even if that's a shorter path.
You may want to avoid passing through walls with transits in cases where a tight seal is needed even if that is the shortest path since you want to avoid creating these penetrations.
Proposed Solution
Select multiple cables that will be routed in a similar area and voltage level.
After clicking Auto Route, I would like to have the option of excluding specific raceway segments from consideration. I should be able to select them individually or by window selection.
After routing the cables, there should be a Routing Property for each cable that indicates the excluded raceway IDs and remembers them in case you need to route the cables again.
Routing the same cable again will apply the previously specified exclusions, unless I specifically reselect exclusions.
The Cable Manager may need another tool to remove excluded raceway segments from selected cables in case I need to remove the exclusions.
