PowerBI Data Connector for OpenPlant

PowerBI Data Connector for OpenPlant

At present most of the major companies are utilizing PowerBI dashboards to show the project related details to dashboard.

It would be wonderful to have PowerBI connector for OpenPlant. The reason for this request has major project impact and will be used extensively.

One of the case examples is to show the Consistency between tags which is on PID and comparison to 3D.

Please don’t say that we have Consistency Checker that can meet the same purpose. Consistency Checker tool might be helpful to this dashboard workflows however it has no match for dashboard data where we would like to show/compare multiple data dynamically.

Suggested Workflow

  1. OpenPlant Modeler/PID/Engineering Data Manager should be able to create a file that would be used through PowerBI via Get Data. This file would sit/reside somewhere to PlantSight (Engineering Data Manager) and dynamic in nature. This means that whenever the tagged component would be added further, the file should be updated automatically or via a scheduled trigger.

  2. This file must have separate details for functional tag as well as physical tag.

  3. Whenever the data is loaded to PowerBI, we can segregate the table based on physical tag as well to functional tag.

  4. The comparison of both would show the consistency of tagged report to dashboard which is very crucial for any project.

  5. There are some parameters that must be there be default example 2D tag residing to which PID drawing.

  6. Implementation of viewer via the PowerBI connector as well to see the 3D elements (cross-probing, then it would be a great addition)

Having a single source of truth and data to be accessed from single source would leverage the concept of Go Digital & is more scalable for project use.

Note:
PlantSight helps to export excel report & can be used to PowerBI, but this will defeat the concept of Digital as it is not dynamic in nature, and someone have to export the report again and again.

OpenPlant to Produce Neutral File Format for Business Intelligence

It would be great to have a neutral file format that would support the BI work (Dashboard & Reporting) from OpenPlant.

Bentley has PlantSight where we can see component data, but it is limited to OpenPlant models only. Also, it would be great to have built-in dashboard (PowerBI) function to connect with the entire plant for reporting and dashboard. The dashboard should have intelligence & it should show the entire plant (3D).

The neutral file when connect to PlantSight or directly from PlantSight should provide a detailed filtering criteria that what data we are connecting/exchange to load to the dashboard.

Recently Autodesk has released the Data Connector officially and it has super buzz for its capabilities and project deliverables use. It would be great if Bentley can consider such advancement or close or superior as Autodesk features are developing.

Do Bentley have any ongoing plan for BI and AI features for Plant suits to produce the quality deliverables? It would be great to have such features to Plant products or preferably the Bentley applications.

With such neutral format we can even surpass the need of IFC.

If Bentley has such existing feature by default, it would be great to have a detailed blog/wiki/community forum on its functionalities.

Thank you

How frequently will feature be used? Several times a day
How much time will you save? It would be advancement to match close to other technologies
