In the industry there are cases where a circular (ring shaped) header manifolds that branches equally to feed fluids to a sub system are needed. For example, a cooling water distribution system.
Currently, Openplant has limited functionality to achieve this successfully. It is possible to achieve rounded pipe using pipe bends, however, it is not possible to easily place taps on pipe bends. Additionally, the graphics at connection points piping components, often overlap. This affects the drawing views/drawing creation process.
If users use custom components to model custom shapes and create the ring manifold, then if there are edits in the future, it is not possible to edit custom components.
Further, OPIM doesn't have a means of generating accurate isometrics for circular manifolds.
The only possible means currently available, is to manually model piping shapes using Microstation solids, and manually create a fabrication drawing.
There would be significant productivity savings if there were improvements to OPM that can improve the process of designing ring shaped manifolds.
