Please bring back Ctrl G and Ctrl U commands

In the latest release OpenPlantModeler 10.11.00.260 the functionality to group items has been removed.

These commands grouped selected items to make it easier to pick when multiple components existed in complex models.

Command were executed using the Ctrl + G to group and Ctrl + U to ungroup.

How frequently will feature be used? A few times a day
How much time will you save? Time saving is dependent on the complexity of the model but can be couple of minutes a day. In our application we pick items and group them to avoid individually picking them in futre.

    Bring this function back. ASAP.

We are still working with Update 9 and we will not upgrade until this functionality is back.

    Please return it ASAP!!!

Оr give any other solution or loading dll or something else. Users work with specific versions and cannot switch or jump from version to version just because they have already configured some settings

This is a great example of how you can take a well-functioning feature and mess it up or remove it because someone else thought it was a good choice. Users have been asking for some functionality for more than 5 years and it has not yet been implemented, but what worked stably disappeared very quickly.

Yes, please bring back this functionality ASAP. If you can limit it to not work on OPM objects great. But not essential.

    Thanks Skyper for your feedback.

Will it be helpful if we add this functionality in OPM i.e. it doesn't works for OPM elements and only works for MicroStation elements.

    Hi Waqas

That would mean that you would need to exit OPM, start it up in MS Mode do the grouping, close the application, then open OPM and go on. Not practical as this will take time in larger models.

How does Bentley intend to make us of Item Types in OPM with this limitation, or will that function also be removed as I do not see how it practically will work as item types does not always exist as a single component.

This function has been around since the dawn of time, I think every user has corrupted OPM data by grouping it and learnt the lesson, but maybe other users can give their input.

Loosing this function is really painful.

    Thanks Spyker for your feedback.

Will it help if we just enable the Group functionality in MicroStation Mode and keep it disabled in OPM, as it doesn't works for OPM components and user may end up corrupting the data.

    Hi Waqas

We used the grouping for Microstation components as it breaks to OPM components. I think you could group plant components in PlantSpace, but never really in OPM.

So the function is purely to group non OpenPlant items and consist of both 2D line data as well as 3D model data.

This is currently cause major pain around our Item Types that we use in conjunction with OpenPlant Items.

    Hope this answers your question.

Hi Spyker, were you using Group items functionality to group OPM components or MicroStation elements ? Can you please elaborate the use case in more detail ?

The removal of the grouping command also impacts the creation of Item Types as multiple items are now created when an item is created in OPM.
